iPirates at Work in Spring 2008Date Posted: Sunday, June 1st, 2008 After the iPirates came back from its first national competition, all team members have been hard at work searching for new seas to sail. The team’s first trip to Atlanta, GA was a great learning experience because although we didn’t make it past our division, we had many opportunities to see how other teams operate so that we can improve our own team.
Recently, we also gained a new major sponsor: DTE Energy. We had been supported by the company in the past through awards for mentors from DTE, but this time, we received a large grant following a presentation we gave. We are very grateful for the support of DTE Energy.
The iPirates has also been in the recruiting phase. On May 16, 2008, a presentation was given to the entire SMCC student body for recruitment. We are always interested in gaining new student members for us to work with and teach. Supporters of the team were also invited to attend. A similar presentation was held later, on May 27, 2008 in the Monroe High School Auditorium. School board members and administrative leaders were invited along with potential students for a presentation and pizza party. The two presentations were very successful and we hope to see many new faces on board when the iPirates’ ship sets sail into a successful summer.
